Ghost Town #1 – Uptop/Old La Veta Pass
Our first ghost town of the trip, Uptop, Colorado! From 1877 to 1899, the town had the world’s highest train tracks with the Denver & Rio Grand Railroad’s Veta Pass.

Ghost Town #2 – Russell
We happened upon these abandoned buildings by accident. Another photographer was there when we arrived and he said this was the ghost town of Russell.

The UFO Watchtower – Center, Colorado
Today we also stopped at a fun roadside attraction called the UFO Watchtower which is an observation platform north of Hooper, Colorado in San Luis Valley. Here we met the owner and founder, Judy Messoline where she shares tales of UFO sightings have been reported, including her own. People can leave tokens behind in the art garden, as a sort of homage to the other worldly.
There have been nearly 200 UFO sightings in this area, with Messoline experiencing around 30 herself. Super fun and interesting stop if you get a chance! Messoline said Memorial Day weekend 2025 will be her 25th year operating the watchtower and she plans to throw an anniversary party to celebrate.

Chimney Rock
On our way to Durango, we caught this view of Chimney Rock National Monument.

11th Street Station – Durango, Colorado
Super cute food cart place we had dinner tonight!
