Sister’s Colorado Adventure Day 7 -Kebler Pass, Crested Butte, the Ghost Town of Gothic, & Twin Lakes

Kebler Pass

Beautiful scenery through Kebler Pass on our way to Crested Butte.

Crested Butte

We stopped for lunch and some shopping in the adorable mountain town of Crested Butte. We ate at Bonez, a super cute and delicious taqueria. We also stopped at our favorite sweets shop and got a caramel apple that are as pretty as they are tasty.

The Ghost Town of Gothic

After dining and doing a little shopping in Crested Butte we drove out to the ghost town of Gothic, CO. We learned today that he former silver-mining ghost town has housed the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory (RMBL, pronounced “rumble”) since 1928. Gothic has more than 55 buildings, with three of them dating back to its establishment in 1879.

To this day, scientists come every summer to conduct research at one of the ghost town’s 300 field sites. The independent lab draws scientists from around the globe. It also attracts hikers and cyclists as the tiny town is surrounded by public land.
