One of my very best friends got married in Utah this last week, so I decided to turn the whole week into a road trip on the way to witness her special day. I decided this when a coworker told me about a Bigfoot festival she and her cousin were going to, down in Willow Creek, California.
Those who know me know I have a slight obsession with Bigfoot, and this sounded like an amazing time, so off I went on the Friday before Labor Day to what is known as the “gateway to Bigfoot country”.
On my way down I passed through Happy Camp, California which also celebrates the elusive Bigfoot with their Bigfoot Jamboree. I grabbed a quick photo of their incredible Sasquatch statue as I passed through the tiny town.
My first destination was Spey-Gee Point Resort which is run by an incredible couple Tom and Morneen. It is located in Hoopa, California where there are three cabins situated along the pristine Klamath River. The cabin deck looked over the river and provided a wonderful perch to enjoy the breathtaking views surrounding it. One of the first things I noticed when getting out of my car was the smell of the fresh air….the smell of pine with a hint of mint maybe…? It was incredible.
If you are down in this neck of the woods ever, I absolutely recommend staying here. The cabin I stayed in was clean and inviting and provided many of the comforts of home. It is a perfect retreat for anyone seeking to get away from it all.
The next day I ventured on to Willow Creek and the Bigfoot Festival. Willow Creek supposedly has the most reported Bigfoot sightings in the country, so I guess it makes sense that it is referred to as the “gateway to Bigfoot country”.
Locals and tourists lined the streets in anticipation for the Bigfoot parade. I met up with my coworker and her cousin there, and we were seriously giddy for whatever was going to unfold during the day.
After the parade we went around and took photos with all of the Bigfoot statues, and went to check out the Bigfoot exhibit at the museum.
These last photos deserve their own little section. This is the famous “Bigfoot Burger” made by the Early Bird Cafe in Willow Creek. Not only do they look super cool, but they are absolutely delicious!!
