A Haunted Fort, a Shipwreck and a Mansion

This weekend Devin, Amber, Erin, Lucian and I ventured to Astoria, Oregon. The main purpose of our visit was the open house for the “other” Flavel mansion, which I will talk about and post pictures of in a separate blog. We decided to make a whole weekend of it, so we drove up on Saturday to check out some of our favorite haunts.

Peter Iredale Shipwreck

The Peter Iredale ran ashore on October 25, 1906 while en route to the Columbia River. There were no casualties in the wreck, and the ship actually recieved very little damage. The intent was to tow the ship back out to sea, but enough time passed waiting for more favorable weather, that the ship listed to the left and became embedded in the sand. What is left of the ship sure makes for some fun photos.

The Flavel House Museum

And here is just a random old caboose that was parked across the street from our hotel. I didn’t notice the creepy santa peering out the window until it was too late. I was already committed to getting a shot.
